What is a Kua Number and how does it benefit you? How to calculate your Feng Shui Kua Number

A Kua or Ming Gua number is based on the Eight Aspirations Theory. The Kua refers to the Pa Kua, the eight-sided octagon symbol with a Trigram on each side. Pa means 'eight' while Kua means 'trigram', hence the name Pa Kua. This shows the eight directions.

Your personal Kua number is calculated by your birth date and gender.

Once you have worked out your Kua number you will then know your four auspicious directions and four directions to avoid and also if you are a West or East group person.

Knowing your Kua number allows you to take advantage of directions that support you and avoid the ones that don't.

Success Direction - Face your success direction to give you fire in your belly at work and also the upper hand when making important phone calls or in conferences/meetings.

Health Direction - This direction is a great direction to sleep, eat or rest in. If you are unwell, this direction will help support you while you are recovering.

Love Direction - Facing your love direction at the dinner table makes for a more calm and relaxed conversation verses sitting in your success direction as you will become more competitive and possibly argumentative to get your point across.

Study/Personal Growth - Sit facing your study/personal growth direction when studying to help keep you focused and absorb the knowledge.

To calculate your Kua number take the last two digits of your year of birth and add the numbers, keep adding them until you reduce them to a single digit.

Females born before 2000

  1. Add the last two numbers of your year of birth and bring it to a single digit.

  2. Add your single digit to number 5. Bring this number to a single digit, if needed.

  3. This is your Kua number.

If you a female born after the year 2000 add 6 instead of 5.

Example: Female born 7 May 1945. Add 4 + 5 = 9. Then add 5 + 9 = 14. Reduce to a single digit 1 + 4 = 5

The Kua number is 5.

Males born before 2000

  1. Add the last two numbers of your year of birth and bring it to a single digit.

  2. Deduct your single digit from number 10.

  3. This is your Kua number.

For a male born after the year 2000, deduct from 9 instead of 10.

Important: A male born in 2009 and 2018 will have the Kua Number 9.

Example: Male born 8 September 1992. Add 9 + 2 = 11. Reduce to single digits so 1 + 1 = 2. Then deduct 10 - 2 = 8. The Kua number is 8.

Important note: If you were born in January or February, it is important to refer to the Lunar Calendar to check if your date of birth falls in the previous year as the Lunar New Year starts on a different date each year.

For Example, if you are a female born on January 26th 1979 when you check the Lunar Calendar, you will see that the Year of Horse was from February 7th 1978 to January 27th 1979. This then changes the year to 1978 using in these calculations. - Please see Lunar Calendar below.

1978

7 + 8 = 15. 1 + 5 = 6. Then 6 + 5 = 11

1 + 1 = 2
